Diversity drives creativity
I firmly believe this. Not because it's trendy or something "we have to do". Of everything I learned from working in four continents—on countless cross-disciplinary projects in multiple markets—and from hours and hours working on an MBA, it's that diversity is a huge advantage in an organization. I don't just mean gender or ethnicity by the way. That's a fantastic place to start, but I'm talking about age, personality, subculture, religion, life experience, way of thinking, skillset, socio-economic status, worldview, disability, sexuality, passion points, everything. A rich mix of these in your team gives you an incredible array of insight and creativity to draw upon, plus a greater ability to avoid cultural faux pas.
This is why diversity has been proven to boost innovation and financial performance. Here's one study from McKinsey that highlights the value it brings. I'd happily discuss more on this topic—I'm deeply passionate about diversity, equality and inclusion and I do everything I in my power to foster it. I hope you see that in my work and more importantly my actions, because it underlines everything I do.
